The Honda Odyssey has been the best minivan choice for families for more than three decades. With its spacious interior, modern comfort features, and impressive handling, the Odyssey has gained a loyal following among minivan enthusiasts. This version of the Honda Odyssey was introduced in 2018, and while it’s expected to remain mostly unchanged for 2024, we expect there will be some exciting changes in the works.
First, there’s styling. Honda has recently updated its sedans and crossovers, incorporating slim oblong headlights and wide grilles into its design language. The 2024 Honda Odyssey could be next in line to receive a similar update, keeping the minivan looking fresh and up-to-date. There are also rumors of Honda developing a mild hybrid powertrain that could be added to the Odyssey shortly, but it’s more likely that Honda will wait for a full redesign before implementing this technology.

The Honda Odyssey is known for its impressive features and spacious interior. But with fierce competition in the minivan market, the 2024 Odyssey will need to bring something new to the table if it wants to remain one of the top options for families. For example, the Chrysler Pacifica offers a plug-in hybrid option, and the Toyota Sienna is now fully hybrid. The Kia Carnival is also a strong contender, with its impressive technology and upscale features.
Honda has discontinued the Odyssey LX for 2023, resulting in a price increase to $38,635. To make up for the discontinued trim, Honda has added a new Sport trim to the lineup, which is equipped similarly to the EX-L. The Sport trim comes with a gloss-black grille, matching exterior trim, and 19-inch wheels, and Honda is also including two years of free maintenance.

One area where the current Odyssey could use some improvement in fuel efficiency. Its EPA fuel economy rating which is 22 mpg is lower compared to the Toyota Sienna which have a EPA rating of 36. And while the Sienna offers both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, the Odyssey is only available with front-wheel drive. Whether the next-gen Odyssey will offer a hybrid or even a plug-in option is still up in the air, but it’s possible that Honda may choose to add these features in the future.
At the moment, the only Honda hybrids available for purchase are the Insight, Accord, and CR-V Hybrid. But with the current chip shortage affecting the auto industry, it’s possible that the 2024 Odyssey launch could be delayed. Based on past Odyssey on-sale dates, it’s estimated that the 2024 Odyssey will be released in the first half of 2023. But until Honda makes an official announcement, we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for this beloved minivan.
